We are Robert and Lauren - a couple of Londoner’s who bonded over our passion for travel and exploring new places. We’ve both lived and worked in different countries and have enjoyed exploring new cultures and communities, before settling in London. That’s where we met each other - the rest is history and we’ve now been engaged for over a year!

During a flight to Italy in early 2020, we got to talking about all of our favourite places we’d visited in our three year relationship. Our love of exploring and travelling had been one of the reasons that we’d ended up together and we got to thinking, why don’t we document some of this? The Travel Slugs was born.

Hello, I was born in a small town of the Netherlands and working in CGI. Being in this line of work has resulted in me living in Ireland, Germany and the UK. Having met Lauren made me plant roots a bit more and I am happy to call the UK my home now. It was the passion for film over which we bonded and after a few months of dating we decided to go away for a weekend to Brighton in March … bad idea. A sea-view room where it was not possible to see the sea due to the thick fog that didn’t lift until the last day. This weekend was the start of many more trips that we are now sharing with you. Hopefully you will find them entertaining and useful.

Nice to virtually meet you! I’m originally from Essex and work in marketing & PR. Throughout my career I’ve lived in both London and New York City, also getting the chance to frequently travel for work to Canada and Germany. I’m a film and theatre buff and love to incorporate these passions into our travelling too.

My favourite trips with Rob are city breaks to Paris (because we spend the whole time eating) and New York (for the theatre!) Japan was a real highlight and possibly the best holiday of my life - don’t miss our posts on our visit there! I speak a little italian (my mother’s family are from there), french and I’m currently learning dutch, for obvious reasons!
